So this is a throwback article that was written last December! This trip was a couple days before New Years Eve. This was all pre-COVID. Most cruises are not running yet still!
Ever been sitting at home bored and started getting antsy for a vacation? You may even go as far as looking up some plane tickets online. To some people, traveling can be exhausting and more like a chore. For others, it can be an extremely stress free and exciting time.
Last week I got the itch to be sitting on a beach. (It had been raining for weeks in Florida). So we started looking at plane tickets and cruise tickets and any ticket we could think of.
Sure enough, we stumbled on a 2 day cruise that brought you to the Bahamas. For some reason, my mom had my birth certificate handyβ¦ so we bought the ticket.βπΌπ
We bought the ticket late Wednesday night, and by Thursday morning at 10 am we were in the car. We drove a couple hours away to the cruise port and hopped on! By Thursday night (less than 24 hours later) we were taking off to the Bahamas.
We spent all day Friday in Freeport, Bahamas. (This is on the Grand Bahama Island). When we arrived we took a taxi to a local beach. Spent the day here swimming, snorkeling, and drinking.π I even had an incredible massage in a beach tiki hut. After taking a walk down the beach, I even stumbled upon a super fun, giant swing.
It was also really interesting to talk with some of the locals on the beach. I met a guy named Tyrone who had been living on the island his whole life. It was really eye opening and upsetting to hear about all of the damage the last few hurricanes have caused. He said there were still over 1,000 people missing, as well as hundreds injured or killed. You could also see the damage all around the island. Pretty much every three buildings were still boarded up and abandoned. Since they have a horrible hurricane every few years, the island just never gets the chance to fully recover. It was very eye opening, and very upsetting.
Once back on the cruise, the fun didnβt stop. The ship itself was incredible! There were lots of food, blackjack tables, and great alcohol. There were free comedy shows, performers, and fun activities!
It was such a perfect little vacation. We were back home by Saturday afternoon, feeling completely refreshed. If you get the chance to jump on travel, any type, you should do It!
